ALGIERS, — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez arrived in Algeria on Monday on the final leg of a tour of OPEC oil producing nations to prepare for the first cartel's summit of heads of state in 25 years.

The official Algerian news agency APS said Chavez was greeted at Algiers airport by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The two are expected to hold talks on Tuesday before the Venezuelan leader returns home after the tour to invite leaders of member states of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries to the summit in Caracas in late September.
