NEW YORK Treasury bond prices were mixed at midday.
The price of the Treasury's main 30-year bond was up 9-32 point,
or $2.81 1/4 per $1,000 in face value, around midday, while its yield
fell to 5.55 percent from 5.57 percent late Monday.
But prices of shorter-term issues were unchanged.
Yields on three-month Treasury bills auctioned Monday rose to
4.49 percent as the discount gained 0.05 percentage point to 4.38
percent. Six-month yields rose to 4.58 percent as the discount
gained 0.01 percentage point to 4.41 percent. One-year yields held
steady at 4.68 percent as the discount stayed at 4.47 percent.
Yields are the interest bonds pay by maturity, while the
discount is the interest at which they are sold.
